Meritxell Batet Lamaña (Barcelona, Spain – 1973) is a Spanish jurist and politician, professor of constitutional law at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra and deputy first secretary of the Socialist Party of Catalonia (PSC). With a degree in Law from the University of Barcelona, she has played several prominent roles in the political arena. She has been deputy for Barcelona in the Spanish Parliament between the VIII and XV legislatures (2004-2023), with the exception of the XI legislature, in which she was deputy for Madrid. Between 2018 and 2019 she held the position of Minister of Territorial Policy and Public Function, and between 2019 and 2023 she served as President of the Spanish Parliament. In the academic field, Meritxell Batet has been an associate professor at the University of Barcelona and at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, where she currently teaches constitutional law.
